Review: Johnny Guest Band – Helluva Debut at Sideshow Lounge, Tioga Downs!
Hey Tioga —if you weren't at the Sideshow Lounge last night (Feb 28, 2026), you really missed out on something special. Johnny Guest and the boys rolled in from way up yonder in Midland, MI (ain't but a stone's throw from the ol' Chippewa River), hauled their gear across states (that's a solid 8-10 hour drive with gear and all) for one little show, but so damn glad they. A band this damn good willing to drive that far truly deserves a full house, and they earned every boot on the floor—next time, let's pack it wall-to-wall so they know the Southern Tier's got love for real country music.
Johnny's the real deal: a true showman with a voice that cuts through the room, killer lead guitar licks, and a grin that says he's having as much fun as the crowd. He loves gettin' folks involved—banter, shout-outs, stories—and he made sure to give the venue its due, tippin' his hat to Savannah behind the bar for keepin' the drinks cold and the good times rollin'. Class act through and through.
Some serious special props to Ben Patterson on drums and Rick Armstrong on bass—they thumped and grooved like pros all night, then turned the after-set hang into pure comedy. Of course, I forgot their names, and Ben hands me a drumstick with a straight face: "Don't worry—my name's written right here." LMAO—got me good, boys. Y'all had awesome fun at my expense (and my short-term memory's expense), but damn if it didn't make the night even better. Thanks for the laughs, the killer rhythm, and next time I'll remember... or at least bring more beer.
They mixed crowd-pleasers with originals that hit hard, building the energy until—toward the end—as the dance floor finally filled up and it was simply awesome. Lorrie and I danced till our legs gave out, and it was worth every damn step.
If you're craving real, feel-good live country with heart, grit, enough rock edge to keep it interesting, and a side of good-natured ribbing that'll have you laughing all the way home, catch these guys. Johnny Guest Band ain't just good—they're great! Huge thanks for one unforgettable night at Sideshow Lounge. 5 stars, no question. Get your boots ready—these Midland boys (and their prankster rhythm section) better come back soon.
